Introduction - Who is Mr. Daly?
My name is John Daly. I have been in education for almost 32 years, in the middle of my 28th year as a teacher here at Lake Shore High School in St. Clair Shores, Mi. I grew up here in Michigan where I attended Catholic Central High School (when it was in Redford, MI) and I attended Central Michigan University for my undergrad degree in Business Education / General Business. I also got my masters degree from CMU in Administration with a concentration in Human Resources. I have been married for over 30 years and my wife and I have two kids. I have also been involved with coaching, doing game stats, and even broadcasting girls basketball since 1982, from 2nd graders all the way through high school varsity. It sure makes a difference having a job that I enjoy coming to everyday. In my classroom is where I find the greatest satisfaction working with my students. Getting to know them, work with them, help them, hopefully inspire them to go after their dreams and goals. I also learn so much from them - students teach too!
Life Vision Statement
I have learned that everything rises and falls on Leadership. Character is the cornerstone to living a good life. It is such a crucial part to being successful. For me it is something to be guarded more and more in my life. I know that my Family, is the most important thing that I have in life and if I don’t have good character, they and everyone that knows me, will suffer for it. My choices and decisions affect them and everyone I know. Success is also being Positive, as it is said that it is the one thing that can make a difference in all that we do. I have realized that I have a choice as how I react to things that happen; having a Positive Mental Attitude helps me to deal with things better. Having figured out one of my clear purposes in life is to make a difference in people’s lives; these terms help me focus in on doing just that.
A life vision statement for you should have (I think) at least 3 (or more) key words that really define you. If people get to know you, they would agree that these words do indeed fit you. If you can look at choices and decisions that you are dealing with day in and day out; ask yourself - "how does this choice or decision affect my life vision statement?" I have the Pyramid of Success from Coach John Wooden along with a long list of success terms that you might want to look at to come up with some ideas for your Life Vision Statement. Ask me for help you if you need it.
